this, to me, is the most fabulous area ofthe whole house. to me, the whole house centers on this space,where it actually is seamless and you can walk through to the dining room, to the livingroom. this is the entertainment area of the house. and you know what?
exterior paint colors blue grey, when everybody comes to your house, wheredo they go? they go to your kitchen. and so, here is an unbelievable entertainmentkitchen. well, the counter tops are all marble.
and this is calcutta marble. this is polished on one side, honed on theother. they have come out with a skin that you canput on top of this, which if you have wine or lemons, it doesn't hurt it anymore. another fabulous thing in this kitchen isthe sink. everybody loves a farm sink, because it'sbig, it's deep, you can put all your dishes in it. these floors are absolutely incredible floors. this is a maple, a very hard wood.
and it's also unusual, because it has thewarmth of a hand-scraped floor, but there's absolutely no hand scraping on it. and the warm color actually ties into thebeams. the beams are all custom-stained to coordinatewith the floor. we have the little new orleans lights thatare over the counter, which give a little warmth to the kitchen. the pantry is absolutely fabulous. the pantry is not only an appliance pantry,it's also a butler's pantry, because on one end of it, hidden behind this gorgeous opendoor, is an entire area with plugs all around
it, that you can plug all your appliancesin. you can put your toasters. you can put your coffee maker. you can put anything that you wanna be cookingin there, your crock pot, whatever, and it tends to keep the kitchen clean. it's great. and it has a convection microwave that pullsout in a drawer, which is very unusual. then we've also got these incredible appliances. for instance, we have a chef's dream withthis stove.
this stove is wider than a normal stove. all of your grills are adjustable. they come off. you can put other grills on it. it's, of course, a gas stove. it's got two ovens with it, so you can becooking in your oven and then bringing everything out for everyone to smell, but you can alsokeep it warm in the little side oven. it's almost like a warming oven. or you could even use that as a real oven.
it does both functions. it's an unbelievable chef's dream. and that is a custom-designed hood vent thatis on top of the marble wall, that is behind the hood vent. it's purposely black, because we were tryingto pull out the little grays and blacks on
the calacatta marble. and it's recessed, and it is screwed in, andit goes almost all the way up to the beam to draw your eye up. and it just gives it enough splash to kindof tone down all the white in the house.
