[music playing] this is james, clairol color director. and i'm here to give you someinsider tips for getting beautiful, natural looking ombrehair color at home. it's all about looking like youspent the holiday in the sun.

or the center of your head. another tip-- use cotton andplastic wrap to isolate the color and prevent it from bleedingonto unwanted strands. ok, you ready? let's get started. for this look you will need naturallight ash blonde by nice 'n easy, a bowl to hold the colorin, a brush to paint the color on with, a spatula, akitchen timer, a tail comb, cotton, plastic wrap.
it's good to pre-tear acouple pieces of plastic wrap and have them on the edgeof your kitchen counter. and, of course, alwaysa stack of towels. ok, let's get started. prep the hair accordingto the box instructions. decide where you want thelighter strands to appear. start in the front of your head andthen work towards the back of your head. pull all of your hair back ina ponytail or use a headband. carve out a small sectionof hair in your left temple.
place a piece of cottonin your hand and hold it while you're going to dip thetip of your brush in the color and apply it to spatula. next, take your brush anddip the tip onto the spatula. imagine you are a great artiste. the spatula is goingto act as your palette. by using your palette toload the color onto the brush and not directly onto the hair,this will help prevent lumps and you will have bettercontrol of your product.
you want to take smallsections of your hair and actually sweep thecolor on top of it. keep your hair elevatedto a 90 degree angle. start no closer thanone inch from the scalp and sweep the color on thesection you've pulled out. then you're going touse your spatula to hold the hair as you work your waydown the remainder of the strand. now place the cotton under thestrand and gently place it down, making sure it's nottouched the other hair.
that is the purpose of the cotton. cover the section witha piece of plastic wrap. take out about a finger's widthsection and let it gently lay on top of the plastic wrap. repeat on the right side of yourhead, then repeat on the top. after you've finished your last section,set a timer for the recommended 25 minutes so the color can process.
wash and condition with theamazing conditioner in the box. then styling and admireyour balayage highlights.
