hey this is donnie gupton, welcome back to flooring my life tv in today's video we are going to go over the top 5 carpet trends of 2016 so, typically when people are buying carpet they're usually looking at comfort, stain resistance, or durability and style and now there's a new thing with how healthy it is in your home and your enviorment
popular carpet colors for living rooms, so before, carpet used to be basically just a background color to your house but now with the colors and designs and patterns you can really design a whole room around carpeting so carpeting continues to evolve as the rest of flooring does in the industry
so let's get right into these trends. so trend number five would be green or a healthy carpet for the home. so natural fibers such as wool, actually comes from a sheep that's going to be obviously one of the more healthy things that you can come bring into your house, but now with the awareness of the or general population of all these different types of formaldehyde or things we can bring into our house now we're getting a lot more demand from the consumer as to what's healthy to bring into my home so that would be one of the trends one of the things you can pay attention to is the green label plus
logo on the back of your carpet samples that basically means that it has good indoor air quality that will be suitable for you and your family next trend, trend number four would be patterned carpets patterned carpets are very popular right now lots of striations, lots of geometrical patterns, florals are out there for your more formal type of rooms but the reason these are continuing to gain popularity is because of the soft treatments i'll get down to here in a minute but now we can make patterned carpets that are very very comfortable and a few years ago we couldn't do that
because they're high/low typically or they're a loop type carpet typically comfort and that doesn't go hand in hand but now with these softer nylons and softer fibers you can get the comfort too so trend number three being color the overall color palette is still very neutral with a lot of earth tones lots of the beige, browns, earth toned greys but we're also seeing some bolder colors coming out now too with some dark blues and navys and ocean colors as well as some coral type colors that are gaining some popularity
you will see some more bold colors in 2016 but expect to see a lot of the same with your earth tone the one thing i will point out is what they call a heathered product and that's basically where the multi color effect, they blend the fibers before turning it into a twist so what that means is you're going to get a nice consistent multi color look vs. your traditional berber looks where it can get blotchy and spotty with multi color, so multicolors are obviously great for busy lifestyles and people with family it's also a nice design to decorate around
trend number two is soft. how soft can we make the fiber? so you have stainmaster trusoft, caress, soft touch if you're into the smart strand silk, that's very soft all the top manufacterers are competing on how soft they can make the carpet and how comfortable they can make the carpet so you're going to see a lot more soft fibers here in 2016 and the final and most important trend of 2016 will be the advancement of solution dyed nylons or pet friendly nylons the solution dyed nylon basically means that the color in the fiber
is added during its molten phase before it hardens so what you get is an extremely far more stain resistant carpet because the color is all the way through and not just topical kind of like if you use the comparison of a carrot vs a radish in these solution dyed nylons, you have a carrot where the dye is all the way through vs your traditional nylon where it's just topical color so you're getting deeper colors and also if you see the term bcf that actually means that is one continuous string of fiber therefore you don't have any floating fibers in the room so it's a non allergenic feature as well
so again, the number one thing is these solution nylons that are pet friendly, these are extremely durable if you combine that with some of this stain master trusoft you're going to get a comfortable durable carpet as you can see, like i said before with the patterns when you add these features to the patterns, they become that much more attractive so if you have any experience with any of these please leave a comment i would love to hear your feedback with any of the things i just discussed or if you have any questions about these moving forward
